Aim
To support Mission Communities to develop a missional lens, ensuring that as they form and grow as mission communities, they develop strategies, work and ministries fit for the missional culture we are now in.
We recognise that this could be a major turn to intentional mission as the God for All (G4A) strategy is realised: namely that by 2020 every person in Cumbria of all ages and backgrounds will have had an opportunity to discover more of God and God’s purpose for their lives, so that they will discover more of Jesus and the Good News and become followers of Jesus within a Christian community
The Role of Constructive Coach and Friend (CCF)
A CCF may play a number of different roles, but the primary context is to help sharpen and ensure a missional focus and as such this may include:
  • as group CCF, assisting the Mission Community to interact creatively and positively by understanding its own internal dynamics, coming to terms with differences and helping individuals to feel valued;
  • as management CCF, enabling the Mission Community to monitor its progress in relation to the original aims and objectives, and to set new ones;
  • as a cultural observer, helping the Mission Community understand the shifting cultural context nationally and locally and develop appropriate responses;
  • as a critical friend, helping each mission community frame the key transitions, e.g. Buildings, Vocations, Ministry etc. continue to be nurtured and developed through a mission lens;
  • as a coach enabling reflection and helping the Mission Community to move forward creatively in a post Christian cultural context.
Who might be a CCF?
As the points above illustrate, the CCF role is not about knowing answers but about being alongside a Mission Community leadership team as the Mission Community develops. A potential CCF may well have coaching and team development skills in a secular context, whether that be business, education, health care, public or private sector. Alternatively, someone may well have been in church ministry with an accumulation of experience and expertise to bring to the role. Whatever the background, key skills are those of listening and enabling critical reflection, with a willingness to get to know the specific context.
Training will be provided for all potential CCFs. If you would like to explore this further please contact Revd. Jane Maycock at  jane.maycock@cumbriachristianlearning.org.uk
